Our Legacy

EK Pahel B.R. Memorial Welfare Society was founded in December 2009 in memory of Balwant Rai, an educator, mentor, and community leader who dedicated his life to the betterment of underprivileged students and communities. Born in 1943 in the Punjab Province of India, Balwant Rai’s journey was one of resilience and determination. Raised in Amritsar, Punjab, he faced financial hardships but was undeterred in his pursuit of education. His dedication to learning led him to Patiala and Saharanpur, where he continued his studies, often working as a teacher to fund his school fees. Eventually, he moved to Agra to receive higher education from Dayalbagh University.

Balwant Rai’s exceptional knowledge and leadership abilities led him to a teaching position at REI Inter College. Over the years, he rose to the position of Principal, where he played an instrumental role in transforming the institution and enriching the lives of his students. His untimely passing on December 2, 1996, marked the end of an era for his family and the educational community he had deeply impacted.

Balwant Rai was not just an educator but also a social visionary. He believed in the transformative power of education and devoted his life to ensuring that economically challenged students received the quality education they deserved. His humble, hardworking nature and his deep sense of responsibility for his students made him an inspiring leader. His commitment to discipline, hard work, and academic excellence set a strong foundation for his students to succeed in life.

Balwant Rai’s legacy of compassion, determination, and education continues to inspire. He worked tirelessly to uplift the underprivileged and ensured that financial constraints never hindered a child’s future. His vision for the welfare of economically disadvantaged children and women led to the formation of EK Pahel B.R. Memorial Welfare Society.

Our Mission

Inspired by his values, Balwant Rai's son, Manish Rai, alongside a dedicated team of young individuals, established EK Pahel B.R. Memorial Welfare Society. The organization was built to honor his legacy and to fulfill his vision of providing quality education and welfare programs to those in need. Since its inception, EK Pahel has worked diligently to enhance the lives of underprivileged children, youth, and women across India by focusing on education, healthcare, skill development, and livelihood opportunities.

We continue to follow the guiding principles laid by Balwant Rai to illuminate the future of the less fortunate. EK Pahel is committed to empowering children and women by providing them with the resources, education, and support they need to succeed, ensuring a brighter, more sustainable future for them and their communities.
